Netanyahu's Comin' To Town

“The invitation of Netanyahu, signed by the ‘bipartisan leadership of the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate,’ is a political provocation against mass opposition to the genocide in Gaza, in the US and throughout the world. It is a declaration of political and moral solidarity with a murderer who has been accused by the top prosecutor of the International Criminal Court of war crimes.”
—from the Statement of the World Socialist Web Site Editorial Board, 06.10.2024

“All over, people changin’ their votes along with their overcoats;
If Adolf Hitler flew in today, they’d send a limousine anyway!”

—The Clash, 1977

The Editors of the World Socialist Web Site blog are calling for a mass mobilization to greet Israeli Führer Benjamin Netanyahu when he comes to slime Washington, DC on July 24 and I, for one, am absolutely down for giving this sonofabitch the welcome he deserves when he comes barging into my city.

So, here’s my contribution to the propaganda effort, complete with “your message here” space, suitable for printing — and wheatpasting — at 11×17 on any walk-up digital color copier.

It's LIT! 4 Arrests at DCMJ U.S. Capitol "Smoke-In"

4 Arrested at DCMJ U.S. Capitol "Smoke-In" Apr 24 2017 from Mike Flugennock on Vimeo.

After last Thursday's arrestees were freed after being jailed on obviously bogus charges, the activists of DCMJ took it to the Capitol steps this afternoon for their "smoke-in" civil disobedience to demand Federal descheduling of cannabis and an end to Congressional interference of DC citizens' right to make their own laws. Four activists were arrested for lighting up on the East Lawn of the Capitol.

Bird-doggin'

"Bird-dogging" at Rep. Andy Harris fundraiser, 02.16.16 from Mike Flugennock on Vimeo.

This past Tuesday, I joined the DCMJ Posse on a trip up the highway to Bel Air, Maryland, in the state's 1st Congressional District, represented by one Andy Harris. Most of you will remember Andy as the Congressman who tried to overturn the results of the DC referendum which enacted Proposition 71, which legalized the private use, possession and growing of marijuana.

Phrygian Capitol

Hey, now, Free DC! Got those Phrygian Caps ready? Because it's just about time for the DC Democracy Vigil on Tax Day, April 15. Find out more and RSVP at the DC Cannabis Coalition:
At the beginning of this year we sought volunteers to staff a DC Democracy Vigil. Had Congress moved to overturn Initiative 71, we planned to stage at 24 hour a day vigil to highlight our discontent. But after our meeting last week with Representative Jason Chaffetz’s staff, where we offered him a chance to reset relations with DC residents, we came away thinking Congressional leaders are not going to lift a finger for us! We have no choice but to escalate protests NOW to ruin their fake "freedom" brand and see them exposed for what they are: Oppressors.
So... y'ever wonder why the Statue Of Freedom on top of the Capitol Dome isn't wearing a Phrygian Cap? Check it out here...
In 1854, when sculptor Thomas Crawford was preparing models for sculpture for the United States Capitol, Secretary of War Jefferson Davis (later to be the President of the Confederate States of America) insisted that a Phrygian cap not be included on a Statue of Freedom, on the grounds that "American liberty is original and not the liberty of the freed slave". The cap was not included in the final bronze version that is now in the building.

Congressional Oversight

Those of you who've been following the recent decriminalization of marijuana in DC -- and the current Initiative 71 legalization campaign -- have had a little taste of how badly Congress jerks us around in terms of self-government and self-determination.

We've had meddling Congressmen trying to scuttle our gun control laws, prevent us from funding abortions and, most recently, the notorious Maryland Rep. Andy Harris trying to stop us from implementing marijuana decriminalization -- and probably one of the biggest fears right now is that Congress will try to interfere in the upcoming election here, where we'll be electing a new Mayor, and voting on whether or not to legalize marijuana.

DC Flag Day, In The Flesh!

The weather was iffy all day, swinging back and forth from perfect to looking like a downpour from one minute to the next. Still, by the time showtime rolled around, it had finally settled down to something unseasonably comfortable, and the gathered crowd of DC Statehood activists and supporting citizens finally got down to celebrating Flag Day by showing off a wide variety of DC flag-based tattoos.

And now, to augment your Flag Day Experience, here's a little trip to Song Poem Hell, with the perversely legendary Gary Roberts -- in his own inimitably atonal fashion -- crooning "Our Flag":

Show us your tats, for DC Statehood!

Hey now, DCers! Time to show off your DC Flag tattoos at the Statehood Rally at Dupont Circle on June 14 from 6 to 8pm! Let Congress know where you stand! Bring it on down, and let’s see that ink!

In the meantime, why not download this invigorating art for your leafletting and wheatpasting pleasure in two convenient sizes.
