Screwed Blue and Tattooed

As I post this, we’re still waiting to hear if the Nazi tattoo-wearing, woman-harassing, domestic violence-committing ex-Abu Ghraib prison guard DNC Senatorial candidate is going to stay in the race, or if the DNC will have to drag Susan Collins out of her oxygen tent.

More sexual harassment and abuse revelations about a politician who guarded Abu Ghraib and already had a history of harassment and domestic violence?

Well-lll, shut my mouth.

Laura "Isis" Sullivan, Photographer & Comrade: an Appreciation

Just the other night, I learned of the passing of my friend and comrade, photographer Laura Sullivan – a.k.a. “Isis” – earlier this month.

I first became friends with Isis and her husband-to-be Michael Sullivan (a.k.a. “the Cubster”) in the late summer of 2007, when Isis and I were on the editorial board of the DC Independent Media Center and working together in the DC IMC’s foto/video workgroup.

Along with our comrade Daryle Lamont Jenkins of One People’s Project, Isis was covering the neo-fascists before it was cool. Under the collective pseudonym “Town Hell Posse” she, Daryle, Michael and I covered Ron Paul rallies in Philadelphia and Tea Party batshittery at rallies on Capitol Hill, and at healthcare town halls in Reston, among other zaniness.

Isis showed me the impact – and fun – of not holding the camera straight up and down all the time; she was a staunch proponent of what they call the “Dutch Tilt” in the business – or what Isis used to call the “Batman Angle”.

She got me to loosen up on my newsreels, to let go of the “straight” approach – to editorialize, to use music, irony, cynicism and sarcasm more in my storytelling style.

In 2010, Isis and I had the honor of being asked to leave the DC IMC editorial board for being “too radical”. No, seriously. Too radical for the IMC.

Thanks so much, kiddo; it was too fucking grand.

“Sources say…” BWAH HA HA HA HAAHHH, “authorities believe” …”sources say” …after the shooter was revealed to be not trans or antifascist at all but just another goddamn fashy punk. Well, waddya know about THAT shit? Of course, that didn’t stop august rags like the London Times or the Washington Times or the New York Post from shoving the truth aside, ignoring the damage and keepin' right on truckin’, like Tom and Daisy in Gatsby.

And, of course, the Canadian Parliament never fails to come through. Remember a couple of years ago, when they gave a Standing O to a former Waffen SS soldier because he fought the Russians (current Official Bad Guys) in World War II – on the fascist side? But, still… sonofabitch fought the Russians, so let’s show him some Standing O love, peeps.

They really do seem to be going hard on this shit right now, though; they must still be pretty shook from the Brian Thompson capping. Well, no matter – no amount of spin-doctoring, scolding, browbeating, threatening or gaslighting will stop me expressing my boundless joy at the spectacular death of an oppressor.

Sorry, Charlie.

Fashionably Fashy

“Not a single Roman work of art — sculpture, coinage, or painting — displays a salute of the kind that is found in Fascism, Nazism, and related ideologies… It is also unknown to Roman literature and is never mentioned by ancient historians of either republican or imperial Rome. The gesture of the raised right arm or hand in Roman and other ancient cultures that is attested in surviving art and literature had a significantly different function and is never identical with the modern straight-arm salute.”
— Martin Winkler, in “The Roman Salute: Cinema, History, Ideology”

…just in case you run into any fashy apologists or Musk symps trying to explain it away by saying it’s a “Roman Salute”.

So just cut the crap already, ‘cos all the wide-open fash are wide-open loving it and — like the original — the Early 21st sequel also features craven-ass collaborators, in the form of the Democratic Party.
